HOW times surely change!
Just about three weeks ago, SuperSport head coach Gavin Hunt confessed having no clue about KCC FC and Cranes striker Brian Umony.

That he wasn’t even interested in knowing the 22-year-old since his side had previously faced more serious strikers.

“Who is he? What does he do? Anyway, we have come here to enjoy our football and win,” he stated on arrival at Entebbe Airport then.

Now, with just 24 hours to tomorrow’s crunch MTN CAF Champions League match at Bidvest, Hunt’s preparatory notes mainly churn around keeping the 22-year-old quiet. Hunt’s pre-training talk has since been about Umony’s elusive movement.

Hunt already intends to assign two man-markers for Umony and does not intend to risk Ugandan goalkeeper Dennis Onyango in goal.

“I don’t know if I will play. Hunt wasn’t pleased with my performance in Kampala and particularly for the second goal. So whatever he decides, I will take it,” Onyango stated yesterday.

Umony is a reserved young man who never loses his head unless when provoked.

Hunt’s sarcastic statements of ‘Who is Umony?’ were so provocative that the striker could not have cared less.

The youngster did all he could to defy Hunt and educate him of his precious qualities with a goal assist and another of his own to guarantee KCC FC a landmark 2-1 win over the South African giants.

“We want to score but also take care at the back. Special emphasis has been given to the two central defenders as regards fitness and awareness,” SuperSport’s assistant boss Thomas Madihahe stated.

KCC’s trip has already been baptized by some as a learning rather than competitive adventure.

Umony is still itching to prolong SuperSport’s nightmarish run.

“I know the game will be tough. They were the favourites in the first leg but we worked as a team to get the result we wanted. We are now more optimistic than ever,” Umony stated.

The other good news for KCC is that defender Omar Hitimana who had not travelled with the team due to a visa hiccup finally joined the rest of the squad in Johannesburg yesterday.

KCC will have a feel of the Bidvest Stadium today.
