ARUA - The army has called for the support of the locals in the West Nile region in finding deserters. The UPDF 409 brigade commander, Lt. Col. David Bangirana, said some thugs use the army uniform to commit crime. He made the appeal while meeting leaders of Ayivu sub-county last week. Bangirana also thanked the Police for helping the army recover 11 illegal firearms in Nebbi district recently.

200 students get bursaries
NEBBI - The Uganda Pentecostal University has offered bursaries to 200 students hailing from the Alur Kingdom in Nebbi district. The university vice-chancellor, Prof. John Tambirweki, said the scheme was aimed at improving cultural ties between the Alur and Tooro kingdoms. He said the beneficiaries would be selected by officials from both kingdoms. The scheme begins in the next financial year.
