THE proposed Naguru General Hospital site is to get an access road. According to bids the Kampala City Council (KCC) contracts committee unveilled recently, four firms are contesting for the project.

They included Bamco Technical Construction, Macro Technical Company, Lamba Technical company and Multiplex.
The multi-milliom project is expected to improve the image of the area.

Like many other heavily populated areas in Kampala, Naguru lacks social amenities.

It has bad roads, dilapidated buildings and slummy dwellings.

Some residents have complained that they were being left out of the scheme which initially was due to have flats for lower income residents.

During the ensuring row the Inspector General of Government Justice Faith Mwondha supported the residents against the then local government minister Kahinda Otafiire who was directly in charge of the developments.

Developer Opec Properties who won the tender worth for the US$300m threatened to sue government and the President decided on its side.

It is not known where the lower income residents will be going to seeing when the process is finished.

The upper reaches of Naguru Hill on the other hand are too expensive having been taken over by private developers on a massive scale.
