WILLIAM Blick has promised rival Peter Magona a post on the executive if he becomes Uganda Rugby Union Chairman. The rugby governing body goes to polls on Sunday.

The new boss will take over from Andrew Owiny, who has served his constitutional two terms.

Vice chairman Blick said his rival needs to get some experience before he assumes future leadership of the association.

“I want to bring him on the committee so that he gains leadership experience,” Blick said.

“We want over sh400m for the team to prepare for the World Cup qualifier against Tunisia and this target is very difficult for a new person to meet,” Blick said.

“That is why we are appealing to Magona to first get to know how the system operates.”

Blick has served as vice chairman for four years.
Not deterred by Blick’s call, former MTN Heathens captain Magona is still confident of victory.

“I am just waiting for Sunday but victory is mine,” Magona said.
“I have had some people saying I’m too young to lead the union, which is not true. I am 30 years old and capable of managing any institution in and outside this country,” Magona charged.

“I’m grateful for the current executive for the work done. We are Africa champions and semi finalists in the 2011 World Cup qualifiers but I want to take Ugandan rugby to another level,” he added.

Magona featured for the Cranes for 10 years, three of which he was captain.
