EASTERN giants Tororo Progressive Academy TOPA look to upsetting rivals and holders St. Mary’s SS Kitende as the COPA Coca-Cola Post Primary Schools football championship kicks off at St. Leo’s College in Fort Portal today.

TOPA, making a fifth appearance, have always moved close to the coveted title but failed to break the lame duck –– twice falling to Kitende.

Under coach Abbey Bogere, TOPA’s worst performance in four years has been making it to the quarterfinals. Their closest shot at the trophy was in 2005 when they lost to Kibuli SS in the final in Masaka.

The school’s director Imran Muluga believes nothing is better than stopping the fairytale run of four-time champions Kitende.

“The good thing is that we have known what it means to reach the final. This time we are prepared to take on the best,” vowed Muluga on Saturday.

Kitende stopped TOPA twice, 1-0 in the quarter-finals in Arua last year; and 3-0 in the semi-finals in 2007 in Jinja.

But Kitende’s head coach Joseph Kasana has vowed they will set another winning record.
