The Nyendo-Ssenyange division chairperson, Joseph Kisirinya, has been ordered to vacate office until the bribery case against him in the Anti-Corruption Court is cleared. In an April 21 letter to the Masaka town clerk, the resident district commissioner, Bamusedde Bwambale, said Kisirinya should be paid half of his salary while on suspension. The letter, copied to the office of the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, stated that Kisirinya should not be in office when he is still battling the corruption case.

‘Use literacy programme’

The acting district chairperson, Boniface Bandikubi, has asked illiterate adults to participate in the Functional Adult Literacy (FAL) programme. Handing over 60 bicycles to FAL at the district headquarters on Tuesday, Bandikubi said: “Mature people should utilise the FAL programme so that they can learn how to read and write because studying does not have an age limit and this will help them to survive in this competitive world,” Bandikubi said. The bicycles worth sh9m were given to the district by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Economic Development.

Hospitals get sh150m items

Just Care, an NGO based in the UK has donated drugs and medical instruments worth sh150m to Wellspring Medical Care Centre in Kamutuuza, Masaka Hospital and Kitovu Hospital. Dr. Pauline Atkinson, the NGO’s coordinator, said the were donated by people in the UK. They included sterilising fluids, wheelchairs, surgical and theatre instruments, hospital and baby bags, beds, X-ray machines and laboratory equipment. “I approached rotary clubs, companies, churches, charity organisations and individuals within the UK and requested them to donate these items,” she said. The equipment was handed over to West Buganda Bishop Kefa Kamya Semakula on Saturday at Wellsprings Medical Centre.
