THE most wanted Karimojong warrior commander, Nadenya Lotukei, has been captured by security officials in Moroto district.

Lotukei, alias Capt. Lokapus, was arrested on Sunday night at the Acholi Inn slum by a combined force of the Police, army and internal security officials.
The district internal security officer, David Drichi, said they had searched for Lotukei for a year.

He explained that the warrior had been arrested at the beginning of last year, but escaped from custody.

“He is now with us and the remaining warriors should handover the illegal guns. We want them alive not dead,” Drichi said at the army detachment in Loputuk where Lotukei was being detained.

“Lotukei has been commander of the Pokot and the Jie. He led the raid to Kenya over the weekend. One of his allies, Lodudu, was shot dead in Nasal village in north Pokot and his body was abandoned there,” he said.

Drichi said they recovered a gun and four rounds of ammunition which Lotukei had hidden in Natapar village in Nadunget sub-county.

He was optimistic that the arrest would minimise cattle raids within the region.

“I am sending a signal to those who wish to graduate from the traditional to State criminals to desist from the act,” Drichi said.
