THE boxing fraternity will next week pay tribute to celebrated boxing referee/judge Jerome Kanakulya. Kanakulya, who passed away in March last year, was one of the first Ugandan officials to shoot up to the world amateur boxing ranks.

Kanakulya's family has organised a holy mass in Ntinda on May 30. Kanakulya, known for his strictness, was also a head teacher.

“He was a disciplinarian and it is such strictness on boxing rules that provided some of the pillars that made the sport thrive in Uganda’s golden age in the sixties and seventies," recounts Uganda Amateur Boxing Federation official David Kyambadde.

Meanwhile, Uganda Professional Boxing Commission has vowed to take action against Jukbox Promotions for failing to pay Kenyan boxer Peter Oluoch after a fight on Saturday.
Oluoch lost to Uganda’s Justine Juuko on points in a ten-round non title fight held in Kampala.
