The Mororo LC3 chairperson, Achok Jumbe, has advised residents to be indoors by 8:00pm citing insecurity in the area. This follows the killing of three people this year.

John Areman, a resident of Kakoliye village, was shot dead by unknown assailants at about 11:00pm on Sunday. Jumbe condemned the murder and appealed to the security officials to protect the residents.

“I would like to call for calm and promise to liaise with security agents to improve security in the division,” Acok said. The regional Police commander, Okot Obwana, confirmed Areman’s death on Monday.

“Areman, 30, was shot in the chest at close range as he tried to open his door to go out and ease himself,” he said. “It seems these people were waiting for him outside, but we cannot tell why the assailants decided to kill a water vendor,” Obwana said, adding Areman was also a Gateway bus broker.

“These people here do not kill without a reason, there must be a perpetrator in this killing,” Obwana said. He added that the Police would investigate the incident and have the assailants prosecuted.

Obwana appealed to the public to be security conscious and cooperate with security officials by providing information on suspects. The Moroto Municipality mayor, Joseph Lomilo, also condemned the murder.

“My humble appeal to the residents is respect your fellow people and borrow a leaf from other districts,” he said. Lomilo called for the end of conflicts among the clans.

By press time, the body was lying in Moroto Hospital Mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.
