NAME the only country in Africa with a cartoon named after it. This is one of the questions that was asked at the Zain Africa Challenge (ZAC) quiz at Nkumba University last week.

Emmanuel Kweyunga answered: “Southern Sudan.” The entire crowd nearly died of laughter, given the celebrity nature of Madagascar, the cartoon in question, many imagined the answer was common knowledge.

I had considered forgiving him. Then he failed another basic one from his own profession — saying the computer abbreviation DOS in full. I thought information technology is all about computers, and the average IT student should know that DOS is Disc Operating System. God help him.

He and Asaph Bamuhe, a second year student of law were representing the university’s weekend school of business administration in the quiz aimed at familiarising Nkumba University with the televised quiz show on NTV, in which African universities, including four from Uganda, are in the run for $50,000 and other student grants from the Zain Group. Kweyunga’s team came second.

The evening’s winners were Daniel Kazoora and Joel Isoke, who represented the university’s social sciences faculty, taking home mobile phones, airtime, caps, t-shirts and Zain-branded bags.
