THE revived MTN Inter-Regional soccer championship starting today will have the outstanding performers pocket sh6.3m. Mid North regional team takes on Western in the opening match of the week-long event in Lira. West Nile will face Eastern in the day’s second game.

Buganda and Kampala regional teams are also ready to compete.

The event was revived by soccer governing body FUFA after over two decades of inactivity.

In addition to the top prize, the runners up will walk away with sh2m while the third-placed team is guaranteed sh1m.
There are also cash awards for players including the best goalkeeper and top scorer.

The tournament is geared at providing another platform for FUFA to tap new talent. Tournament winners will face Uganda Cranes at Namboole later.

The best 11 players of the competition are also scheduled to play the national soccer team also at Namboole.

The tournament, to be contested for annually, is sponsored by communication giants MTN at a record sh50m.
