CULTURAL kingdoms have been called upon to promote African values and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
“I implore you to use your cultural institutions to promote peaceful resolution of conflicts,†President Yoweri Museveni said.
He said the NRM Government restored kingdoms in the quest for good governance.
“The restoration of the cultural institutions by the NRM Government is one of our achievements,†Museveni said in a message read by the First Deputy Prime Minister, Eriya Kategaya.
He was speaking at the 15th coronation anniversary (empango) of the Omukama of Bunyoro, Solomon Iguru, at his Karuzika (royal palace) in Hoima town recently.
Museveni hailed Iguru for encouraging his subjects to embrace government programmes.
“We shall continue to support other projects such as National Agricultural Advisory Services, Prosperity-for-All and the Plan for the Modernisation of Agriculture,†Museveni said.
He also condemned cases of human sacrifice, which are on the rise.
Iguru swore in Yabezi Kiiza as the prime minister. He had held the position following the sacking of Emmanuel Alibankoha earlier this year.
Iguru asked the Banyoro to encourage their children to take up science courses to enable them participate in the ongoing oil exploration in the sub-region.
Yabezi urged the President to fulfill his pledge of eight tractors to the kingdom to boost agriculture.
