SC Villa management, fans and players are in buoyant mood and working closely to seize the opportunity to end a humbling five-year win-less spell this Sunday.

Villa, that faces URA in the Kakungulu Cup final at Nakivubo, has left nothing to chance in a bid to rediscover their winning groove that saw the Jogoos dominate Ugandan soccer in the 1990s.

Treasurer William Nkemba, secretary Mugalu Luyimbazi and other executive members gave a motivational talk to lift the team’s spirits on Thursday evening at Villa Park. Nkemba even promised to clear any salary arrears soon.

The 2004 Kakungulu Cup holders sponsored by uganda telecom, need to win the final to be assured of playing continental football next season.

The fans were also due to hand over money to players as a token of encouragement ahead of the big game.

A prominent Villa fan Samson ‘Miracle’ Nsubuga said they were also mobilising to ensure that they cheer their team in big numbers.

International right-back Simeon Masaba who was part Villa’s squad that won the league in 2002 and the Kakungulu Cup in 2004 observed that the players are tactically and mentally set for the game.

“Everybody wants to do their best. The determination to win is great and if we work together as a team we will win.

URA are league champions but they can be beaten,” Masaba remarked. URA are also on a high after winning the league last weekend.
