RAILWAY passenger coaches are to be introduced this October, the executive chairman of the Rift Valley Railways (RVR), Brown Ondego, has announced. Ondego said the 90-seat coaches would operate between Kampala and Jinja.

He said after a routine board meeting held in the corporation boardroom in Kampala that later on, the service would be extended to the Kenyan border.

“We will start with two passenger coaches whose refurbishing has been completed in the Nalukolongo workshop. We shall add on three coaches. We can only run six to eight coaches between Kampala and Jinja and shall proceed depending on the demand, Ondego explained.

“The passenger service was not part of the concession mandate in Uganda and is being done due to demand and corporate responsibility of giving back to the community. By the October International Trade Show, we hope to have something to show.”
