SKILL and experience took centre stage as the final round of the national Nile Special ‘Sink the black’ pool tournament ended with 30 more players qualifying for the finals.

At Kalifornia bar on William street, Marvin Bbosa emerged champion after seeing off all his opponents in straight sets including Richard Nsereko who went down 4-2 in the best of seven sets final.

Bbosa won the first two games before his opponent clawed back to level in the next two games. But Bbosa stepped up gear by pocketing balls from all angles including reverse shots in the 5th game.

Bbosa intensified the heat on Nsereko who eventually succumbed to defeat.
Wycliff Muwanga, Ibra Matovu and Jack Mbuzi were Bbosa’s other victims before the final.

The battle was more stiffer at Password pub in Nakulabye with Glen Cortez the winner after a 4-3 score over Kenneth Yonazawa. Peter Sekyanzi grabbed the third place slot after beating Innocent Tumusiime 3-2.

At MM Pub, Sam Nabembezi of Tipa pool Club defied all odds to qualify as the third best player after upsetting Remegio Kalyango of Zana 2-1 in a play off. Kalyango had after losing the first game vowed to eliminate Nabembezi.

But Kalyango failed to measure up to the challenge and left soon after the defeat.
Reuben Matanda dismissed Bethlem Seruma 2-0 in the final to become champion.

‘‘I feel motivated to go all the way,’’ Matanda a Kalifornia pool club player with eight years experience said after the final.

Attention now turns to the finals due at Sabrinas pub on July 25. Pool tables and cash will be given to the top players.
