Dear Sir, I did my UACE exams last year and scored 19 points, 4ADBC in HEG/D.

WHAT IS THE MERIT OF SWASA?

Dear Sir, I did my UACE exams last year and scored 19 points, 4ADBC in HEG/D.

I wanted to pursue a career in Law but was unable to. My father advised me to apply for SWASA but I do not know what the course entails.

Advise me.
Eve.T SWASA (Social Work and Social Administration) is a three-year course offered at Makerere and other universities in Uganda.

It is a humanities course that prepares students to become social work practitioners who are development-oriented and grounded in skills and theories of social work practice.

The course produces skilled manpower competent in professional social service delivery and the industrial sector.

It trains individuals to contribute and influence social policy development and practice through research and information dissemination.

As advisers, advocates and counsellors, they help people to live more successfully within their local communities by helping them find solutions to their problems.

According to Dr. Augustus Nuwagaba, a lecturer in the SWASA department of Makerere University, the course covers disciplines in sociology, social administration, economics, research methods, human development women and gender studies.

Use this course to explore an opportunity for further training in other fields. This will make you more marketable.

Nuwagaba says because of its eclectic nature, a degree in SWASA can open the door to other qualifications in law, education, counselling and many other fields. Consider your ambitions and future career plans. Compiled by Stephen Ssenkaaba Ssenkaaba@newvision. co.ug
