POOR sanitation has made the rural population poorer because the little resources are wasted in treating preventable diseases like dysentery and typhoid, the director of Katosi women development trust in Mukono district, Margaret Nakato Lubyayi, has said.

The wife to Mawokota MP Godfrey Lubyayi, was on Sunday launching one of the 20 protected wells constructed by her organisation at Gonve village in Ntenjeru-Kojja sub-county. The organisation has constructed 139 water tanks for homes and schools.

It also offers loans for construction of toilets and participates in community sensitisation against poor hygiene.

The project, that has trained over 280 women, has 140 diary cows, chicken and helps its members construct fish ponds and to practice bee keeping. It also teaches women the importance of hygiene.
