MEN’S national basketball champions D’Mark Power are almost certain of elimination from the Sprite Zone V basketball tournament after their 91-82 defeat to Rwanda’s CSK at Makerere yesterday left them at the mercy of group mathematics.

Power’s second loss in three games left them praying for favourable results in matches involving the other group A teams.

Power are tied on four points with group leaders Cooperative Bank, from Kenya, who have a better head-to-head than the Ugandans after edging them 63-61 Tuesday night.

However, Cooperative Bank, CSK and Uganda’s Kyambogo Warriors have all played a game less.

Power will rue a dreadful second-quarter performance for their fatal loss to CSK. It is the only quarter they lost, by 25-7, but it was enough do them in. They won the others 22-21, 27-21 and 26-24.

On a positive note, Uganda’s Falcons recorded their first victory of the tournament, downing Tanzania’s ABC 85-73 to boost their slim chances of progressing out of Group B to the semifinals.

Uganda’s women KCC Leopards beat local rivals A1 Challenge 67-60 while KIU Rangers fell to Kenya champions KPA 92-58.
