Tumwine comes alive

Gen. Elly Tumwine is a jack of all trades — a soldier, musician, herdsman, teacher and an artist. This combination of experiences is well reflected in his art. Colourful, sometimes monumental and also rich in terms of subject matter.

Tumwine’s latest work is on display in a one-month exhibition at Nommo Gallery in Nakasero, along with that of two young painters; Julius Katende and Eddie Mulungi.

The three artists present interesting work influenced largely by Uganda’s culture. Gen Tumwine’s work thrives on unique traditional practices such as cattle keeping.

I find the other two artists as generous with colour and their work as intricate as Tumwine’s. Perhaps he mentored them.
