Sub-county (Gombolola) chiefs and internal security officers (GISOs) have been directed to monitor public funds disbursed to their areas.

President Yoweri Museveni warned that should they fail to implement his directive, they would be arrested.

Two weeks ago, Museveni ordered the arrest of Police officers at the Natete Police post for their involvement in an illegal eviction.

“If I come next time and I find money misappropriated, I will arrest you,” he said.

Museveni made the remarks while passing out 117 GISOs and their deputies from northern Uganda last Thursday.

The security operatives completed a three-month course in economic management and transformation at the National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi in Kiboga district.

According to a State House statement, Museveni expressed dismay at the high amount of funds which are embezzled every year by “unscrupulous government officers.”

Privatisation state minister Lukia Chekamondo said the finance ministry funded training for internal security officers, adding that the operatives played a pivotal role in development programmes.

Maj. Agnes Musoke emerged the best in leadershipduring the course, while Moses Sentale of Uganda Prisons was the best in academics.
