Couple held over robbery

A COUPLE from Kaberamaido district was arrested over robbery and illegal possession of a firearm. Peter Echeku, 38, and his wife, Alice Akello, 37, were detained at the Rapid Response Unit in Kampala on July 23.

A COUPLE from Kaberamaido district was arrested over robbery and illegal possession of a firearm. Peter Echeku, 38, and his wife, Alice Akello, 37, were detained at the Rapid Response Unit in Kampala on July 23.
According to Police spokesperson Judith Nabakooba, the Police received a tip-off that the two had an illegal gun. “When the Police stormed their house in Omodoi village, they recovered the gun with 25 bullets,†Nabakooba said, adding that clothing similar to army uniforms was also recovered.
She added that the couple also confessed involvement in armed robbery. The couple will appear before the Court Martial.
The two denied possessing a gun, saying a relative had left it at their home.
