TEN Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) supporters were yesterday charged with rioting and remanded in Luzira Prison.

They included Sam Mugumya, the personal assistant to party president Col. Dr Kizza Besigye.

Others were Haji Twalibu Kakande, Muhamed Ali Buni, Isaac Mawanda, Martin Musaazi Kanuma, Catherine Ddembe, Festos Kirumira, Joseph Malankya, Mukiibi Serunjogi and Samuel Ariho.

They were charged before Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate Francis Matenga, who remanded them because their sureties did not have letters of introduction from their local councils.

The suspects appeared jovial before and after the court proceedings and kept flashing the V-sign to other FDC supporters who were in court.

Under the Penal Code, any person guilty of holding unlawful society is liable to three years in prison.

The suspects were arrested on Tuesday during a demonstration against the re-appointment of the Electoral Commission chairman, Eng. Badru Kiggundu.

They had reportedly vowed to physically evict Kiggundu from his office.
