Landlords’ behaviour to blame for violence

Land is surely the most valuable asset, not only in Uganda but the whole world. It is also the most dangerous asset.

The recent upsurge in violence over land issues is too disheartening to ignore.
Samuel kkubolikoza, a landlord in Kayunga, was recently killed as he surveyed his land.
Abid Alam was almost lynched recently. I strongly believe it is selfish landlords to blame for this mess.
Yes, they have legal land titles, but the inhumanity with which they evict tenants is the cause of the hostile reaction from the disgruntled ‘tenants’.
I think the word ‘tenant’ is misplaced in this issue as these are people who have lived on that land for decades without paying anyone any rent. To most, that is the only land they have ever known all their lives and which they call home!
Their grandfathers and great-great grandfathers were buried on that land and their livelihoods are dependent on that land.
Where are they expected to go? I don’t support mob justice but the ‘landlords’ are at fault.
