50 heart patients get Indian sponsorship

THE Indian Association of Uganda will sponsor over 50 Ugandan children annually for open heart surgery in India. The support would cover the operations, air tickets, up keep for each patient and a caretaker.

KAMPALA - The Indian Association of Uganda will sponsor over 50 Ugandan children annually for open heart surgery in India.

Speaking at a dinner organised for former Miss India 2004 and Bollywood star, Bhagat Sayali, at D’ Mellos restaurant on Thursday,
Janardhanan Koyikkal, the chairman of the Kerala Samajam Association(Uganda) said the support was due to the increasing number of child heart patients.

He said the support would cover the operations, air tickets, up keep for each patient and a caretaker. Previously, the association sponsored five children for open heart surgery in India. The Uganda Heart Foundation recently started a fund raising drive to have 150 children with rheumatic heart disease operated.
