I am looking for my father
I am Martin Wanjala, born 29 years ago to Lucy Ajiambo, daughter to the late Mzee Joram Masaba of Naliire village, Samia Bugwe South, Busia district.

My mother told me four years ago that the man I called my father was not even my relative. My dad was a soldier in Amin’s regime based at the then Maliire Barracks in Busia. She, however, hardly remembers much about the man, apart from the name Bilal. She says he was a Lugbara.

Mother was one month pregnant with me during the 1979 war. She says they woke up one morning to find an empty barracks; all the soldiers had been transferred at night.

She apparently feared to raise me single-handedly and plotted with my grandmother to frame her ex-lover for fathering me. The man, Robert Taabu, now the late son of Wafula Francis Madangu, unknowingly accepted me but didn’t take me home and hardly gave me any help. So I was brought up by my grandmother with whom I still live.

I grew up knowing that Taabu was my father and in 1998, escaped from home to look for him in Gulu where he was working as a soldier. Mother was so upset and beat me up.

But she remained quiet when we buried Taabu in January 2001. It was not until November 2005 when I was planning to construct a house at Taabu’s home that my mother told me the truth. I was so shocked, felt so bad and suicidal. The man’s family was now looking to me as their bread earner and hope! I went ahead and cut off links with Taabu’s family, attracting a lot of accusations.

Mother says she is sorry - and I have forgiven her, but now I want to know where my real family is. Anyone who has any idea can call me on 0775 618509 or +254725451673
