Chief opposes site destruction
KAMPALA - Kyadondo county chief, Kaggo Toffiri Malokwezza, has decried investors who are bent on destroying cultural sites for development. “Development is not bad but if it is at the cost of our culture then it’s not worth it,” the chief said during a tour of Nakawa division last week. Addressing the residents at Naguru Community Centre, he said he was disappointed with his discovery of places with cultural values that were on the verge of extinction.

Disabled want EC to takeover

GULU - The disabled want the Electoral Commission to handle their elections, instead of the National Union of Disabled Persons (NUDIPU). Members of the Legal Action for Persons with Disability (LADP), argued that elections through NUDIPU contravene the Act, which gives a person a right to vote in a parish or ward, in which he or she was registered. Presenting a petition to the Speaker of Parliament, Edward Ssekandi, last week, LAPD administrator Med Ssengooba said NUDIPU is an activist organisation for their rights, and therefore involvement in elections would compromise the reason for its formation.

Esther Namusisi, a resident of Wakisi in Mukono district, was netted on Friday after a tip-off by the nurses at the hospital. She said a certain rich man had promised her money if she got a baby for him.
