UGANDA telecom Kobs is not afraid of the pool it was drawn in the Makerere Hima 10s rugby tournament due this weekend at Kyadondo Rugby club in Kampala.

“It’s a tough pool but good for rebuilding our future team and this is great opportunity to prove where we are before next season begins,” coach Herbert Wafula commented.

“Our past performance has nothing to do with this tournament, we are not hungry for titles but we are ready for the event and shall approach each game as it comes,’ Wafula explained.

According to the draws held at Kyadondo, Kobs face Kenya rugby 10s champions Strathmore RFC, Kenya sevens and 2007 Hima 10s champions Mwamba RFC and stubborn Entebbe Mongers in the preliminary stages.

Kobs this season suffered two humiliations, a draw and defeat against the Entebbe Mongers in the local league and sevens circuit respectively, which makes pool B a group of death.

“Group B has always been a tough pool since this tournament started and Ugandan teams will prove themselves to qualify for the group stages,” rugby manager Yayiro Kasasa noted after the draws.

The top two teams from each pool qualify for the quarterfinals in the two-day championships.

Hima Cement, petroleum company Shell, medical providers AAR, insurance firm UAP, Citibank and Uganda Breweries through its Bell Lager flag brand are the tournament sponsors.
The winner of the annual event will walk home with a sh4m cash prize while the runners-up will bag sh2.5m.

Uganda’s MTN Heathens club are defending champions.
