MASAKA MP John Kawanga has advised Ugandans not to vote for people who oppose development projects. Kawanga added that voting such people would keep the country underdeveloped.

“I am a member of the Democratic Party and you voted me as your MP on that ticket. But I have no problem with NRM leaders because I know that all MPs have similar duties regardless of their political parties,” he said.

Kawanga made the remarks while addressing residents of Masaka municipality at Kimaanya town. He noted that contesting for a position of responsibility did not mean attacking others.

“You only have to be foresighted and tell the electorate what you are going to do for them,” Kawanga advised. He said party loyalties should stop at campaigns, adding that after that, those who are elected should work for the good of the electorate.

Kawanga advised the people of Masaka not to condemn the MPs who delay to go back to their constituencies. “I do not think you vote someone in power to attend burials. Every MP is given a responsibility in the House, which they must fulfil,” he said.

Kawanga told the residents that no MP will ever solve their personal problems. “I urge you to stop asking for money before you vote for someone. Never blame a leader for a task he or she is not meant to do,” Kawanga added.

Masaka municipality speaker Dennis Lukanga Majwala commended Kawanga for what he called effectively representing the constituency.

“We still have hope in you as our MP and we believe that you will contest in the coming elections,” Majwala said.

Kawanga responded by saying he would contest with the DP’s support.
