THE Police are holding a renowned Gulu-based business man, Wilson Obala, for allegedly killing a suspected mattress thief. Obala, who runs Crete Mini Conference Hall in Pece division, was arrested over the death of 18-year-old Robert Ayela, a son to the Pece Division councillor, Margaret Aya.

Others held in connection with the death were Fred Kigula, a cook at the conference hall, and Obala’s sons, Geoffrey Okot and Isaac Obala.

The northern Police spokesman, Johnson Kilama, said Ayela was murdered on Monday morning at Obala’s business premises on Commercial Road in Labor-line parish.

Ayela was a S3 student of Sir Samuel Baker School in Gulu. Kilama said the four alleged that Ayela was killed by a mob for stealing a mattress.

Obala is the second high-profile person in the district to be arrested over a murder case. Last year, Tom Ocitti, a former magistrate, was arrested and remanded over the murder of Mac Odwongo, a casual labourer at his home.
