SIX senior Democratic Party (DP) officials have been suspended over indiscipline for reportedly assaulting the party chairman, Joseph Mukiibi, during a recent press conference.
The suspended officials include the chairman for Kampala, John Mary Ssebuufu, Nakawa division chairman Kenneth Kakande, office administrator Sula Kidandali, vice-chairman for Kampala Vincent Mayanja, Kampala Central division councillor Moses Kabu and William Kamulegeya.
They are accused of violently stopping a press conference, which was supposed to be addressed by the party leaders, John Ssebaana Kizito, Mukiibi, and Elias Lukwago, to appoint Bayiga Lulume as secretary general.
Ssebuufu, however, said they would not accept the suspension because they were acting in the interest of the party. The suspended group supported the election of Mathias Nsubuga as acting secretary general.
