EXPRESS edged a weary Iganga yesterday to stretch their lead in the Uganda Super League. League top scorer Noah Ssemakula was the man of the match heading in the all important goal 25 minutes into the match at Wankulukuku.

Ssemakula, who has seven goals, struck off a rebound from goalkeeper Musa Lukungu in a match that started almost an hour late. The game had only a five minute break following the visitors’ late arrival after being involved in an accident on the way.

At Nakivubo 2007/08 champions 10-man KCC narrowly escaped humiliation with a 0-0 draw against mid table side Maji FC.

The match turned ugly after the final whistle when angry fans mobbed KCC officials demanding for their resignation.

KCC FC chairman Godfrey Kisekka, secretary Richard Omongole, manager Hamid Juma and club financier Patrick Isiagi were accused of running the team like a personal affair.

The fans, waving a petition demanding for change, were particularly not happy with a move to sell players skipper Asuman Buyinza, Moses Musoke, Moses Oloya and Anthony Bongole, whose absence was visibly felt during the game.

KCC were only saved by a spirited show from central defender Richard Malinga. Maji substitute Brian Majwega on many occasions had the KCC defence on the ropes only for Malinga to stand out.

At Namboole, Police easily overcame Firemasters in a match the league debutants had threatened not to play.

Intense pressure from the Cops yielded results on 37 minutes with Martin Elungat putting the ball in his own net.

It seemed to be destined for a one goal affair until lanky striker Peter Ssenyonjo, who had earlier wasted two clear chances, nodded home a Ronald Sessanga corner in the last minute.

Elsewhere, Simba SC, second last on the table, could be pushed to the bottom if they lose their engagement against defending champions URA FC, and Arua Central pull off a surprise result against Bunamwaya today.

But yet again, Simba’s fixture against the tax collectors could revive their faltering season. The army club has never lost to URA since the 2005 season.

However, Simba have proved a shadow of the side that stood a chance of winning the title last season before collapsing in the final quarter.
