THE Police have arrested the mother of the four-month-old baby who was allegedly beheaded by her father in Kawempe.

The Police said they suspected the mother, Medius Asiimwe, of having been an accomplice in the murder due to her suspicious conduct before and after the recovery of body parts in their house in Mukalazi Zone. The Police arrested the father, Geoffrey Ssenabulya, in connection with the murder of the baby, Sydney Nakintu, on Sunday.

The Police recovered the head buried under the couple’s bed. The rest of the body was later recovered from a pit in Bulenga, on the Kampala-Mityana road at the home of the couple’s friend, Anifa Ssewava who is in Police custody.

The Police are also holding Ssenabulya’s sister, Sarah Tezitta of Nansana, and a traditional healer, Teo Birungi, in connection with the murder.

Paul Mugisha, CID officer at Kawempe Police Station, said Asiimwe was giving contradicting accounts about her whereabouts on the day of the murder. She could not satisfactory explain where she spent the night of the murder, he said.

The Police have searched a shrine of John Mulindwa, a witchdoctor in Wobulenzi in Luweero district, where Ssenabulya had been going for treatment, but they could not trace Mulindwa.

Asiimwe and Ssewava were yesterday taken to Mulago Hospital for a medical check up after Ssenabulya was tested the previous day and found to be of sound mind.
