A taxi driver in Mbarara town, Sam Muhwezi Bituura, 46, was on Thursday charged with murder. Patrick Tarisuna, a Grade One magistrate at Mbarara court, charged Muhwezi with the murder of his wife, Lydia Tumuhimbise.

Tumuhimbise, a manager of the Post Bank Mbarara branch, allegedly commited suicide in a bathroom at their home in Kacence village, Kakiika sub-county.

However, the prosecution told the court that the Police found the body in the bedroom and not in the bathroom where she allegedly hanged herself.
This made the Police suspect that Muhwezi could have had a hand in his wife’s death.

According to Police investigations, Tumuhimbise died after an assault and her husband was the prime suspect.
It was also reported that before her death, Tumuhimbise and Muhwezi had had domestic misunderstandings, which resulted into the couple separating beds.

Muhwezi was not allowed to plead as the offence can only be tried by the High Court. He was remanded to prison until January 6 when he will be brought before the High Court.
