A TOTAL of 25 acres of land have been purchased in Wakiso district for the construction of Shimoni primary and the teacher’s college.

Peter Lokeris, the primary education state minister, yesterday said they would soon advertise for tenders for the construction.

The two institutions were relocated from the Kampala city centre in 2006 to pave way for construction of a hotel in preparation for the Commonwealth summit in November 2007.

The school was relocated to East Kololo Primary School, while the college moved to Nyondo Primary Teacher’s College in Mbale.

Lokeris said the institutions would be built at a cost of $2m, which the investor who was allocated the former land, had paid to the finance ministry.

The minister also opposed plans by Kampala City Council to use the Nakivubo Blue Primary School playground as a temporary taxi park.

Kampala mayor Nasser Ntege Sebaggala had said they would use the playground as they renovate the Old Taxi Park.

The chairperson of the parliamentary committee on social services, Rosemary Seninde, said they had advised the area MP, Erias Lukwago, to petition Parliament over the matter.
