ALL Saints University has officially opened. The Church of Uganda-founded university was opened last Monday at the main campus at St. Augustine Community Centre in Lira district.

The university authorities said 90 students had registered for the 2009/2010 academic year.

The chancellor, Rev. Charles Odur-kami, who is also the Bishop of Lango Diocese, said the university offers 20 courses with charges ranging from sh300,000 for certificate courses to sh600,000 for undergraduate courses per semester.

Closing the orientation week at the campus on Friday, Odur-Kami said the university had started with three professors and 23 staff.

“We would wish to see that there is excellent performance, good morals and integrity although we have started in a low tone,” Odur-Kami said.

He also urged the Government to assist the university to develop faster.

The deputy chancellor, Dr. Kenneth Absolom Oteng, warned students against strikes which he said would make them lose academic focus.

There are now two universities in the region after the Government-owned Gulu University in the Acholi sub-region.
Three more universities, Lira Integrated, Won Nyaci and a constituent college of Gulu university are expected to open soon in Lira.
