THE Police in Mbarara are looking for Patrick Berebera, a treasurer of Kinoni Archdeaconry. Berebera, a resident of Nyaruhandagazi village, Bugamba sub-county in Mbarara district, on January 3, allegedly disappeared with sh6m.

The money was collected during the Christmas and New Year’s services. The district officer in-charge for criminal investigation, Jackson Tumwine, said they are looking for Berebera after his wife, Edrai Berebera and the Archdeacon of Kinoni Church, the Rev. Sam Tibyasa, reported the matter.

Tibyasa said over sh14m was collected during the festive season. “Tibyasa took sh6m to Ankole Diocese where he used sh2m for church work and the balance of sh6m was kept in a safe which Berebera opened,” said Tumwine.

Neighbours of Kinoni Church of Uganda said they saw Berebera boarding a taxi. The Ankole Diocese Bishop, the Rt. Rev. Dr. George Tibeesigwa, has called for a meeting of all church leaders at the diocese to discuss the matter.
