NIMISHA Madhvani, the Uganda High Commissioner to India, has been recognised as the best investment promoter in 2008.

“The commission has worked with its home government to identify investment opportunities for Uganda and India was among the highest sources of foreign direct investment in Uganda in 2008,” said Dr. Maggie Kigozi, the head of the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA).

A UIA report on investment performance in 2008, places India in the fourth position with 64 planned projects estimated at $177,200,000. These are expected to created 4,942 jobs.

Madhvani received her certificate of recognition during the UAI Investor of the Year awards ceremony in Kampala last week.

She called on UIA to respond to investors’ inquiries about investment opportunities in Uganda.

“The Government must invest in a property in New Delhi to increase our investment portfolio of missions abroad as it is the only mission that is renting,” Madhvani, who is also in charge of Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Myanmar, said.

“Needless to say, money has no geographical barriers. Everyone likes to make money. So where an opportunity rises, we promote Uganda, whether in Iceland or in an aircraft or restaurant.”

“I have just presented my credentials in Bangladesh and addressed the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry. They are ready to visit Uganda to explore the investment opportunities in pharmaceutical, manufacturing, education, ceramic and tourism sectors,” she said.
