KAMPALA - The Government has been advised to devise more strategies to fight HIV/AIDS. Appearing before the parliamentary committee on gender on Wednesday, the technical advisor for the Centre for Domestic Violence Prevention, Hope Turyasingura, said prevention of domestic violence was one of the measures that could curb the spread of the disease. About 77% of HIV/AIDS infected persons in Uganda are married couples, health officials said recently.

Sh3b tipped to avert famine

KOTIDO - The Uganda Red Cross Society has started a sh2.9b food security programme to avert a looming famine in Karamoja. The secretary general, Michael Nataka, said on Wednesday the programme would benefit 5,000 families through the distribution of seeds and tools for the coming planting season.
