THE Democratic Party has asked the National Executive Committee of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) to re-call the outspoken Kampala central MP, Erias Lukwago, as the shadow Attorney General.

Lukwago and embattled Rubaga North MP Beti Kamya were last week dropped from the shadow cabinet over unethical behaviour.

The Opposition Chief Whip, Kassiano Wadri, yesterday said Lukwago was dropped because of attacking FDC, which is the main opposition party and for undermining the Leader of Opposition, Prof. Ogenga Latigo.
Lukwago’s dismissal has since caused wrangles between FDC and the Democratic Party.

Wadri said on Friday, three MPs led by the DP secretary general, Matthias Nsubuga, met him, Latigo, Augustine Ruzindana, the FDC deputy secretary general and Wafula Oguttu, the party spokesperson, to discuss the matter.

“They pleaded with us to reinstate Lukwago, and we also told them why NEC sacked him. We agreed that mistakes are common and we shall forward the matter to NEC, which will take the final decision,” Wadri said.

However, some FDC members who talked to The New Vision were still supporting the decision.

“Lukwago is found of undermining Latigo and opposing for the sake of it. It is better he is left out,” a member said.

“We have been called for an urgent NEC meeting, but if the issue of reinstating Lukwago comes up, we shall protest,” another NEC member said.

There are 16 members on the shadow cabinet. Two belong to DP, one Independent and another member from JEEMA.

Nsubuga said: “FDC being the main opposition party, we had to talk to them about their decision, which we think was wrong,” he said.
Latigo on Friday announced members of the shadow cabinet.

The list included 15 new members such as Abdu Katuntu, who replaced Lukwago. Arua woman MP Christine Bako replaced Kamya as the agriculture minister.

Lukwago could not be reached for a comment as his phone was switched off.
