PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has said the universal primary and secondary education programmes were introduced to transform society.

The President, who is launching a country-wide patriotism project yesterday commissioned over 200 senior secondary school teachers, who had been on a three-day workshop in Tororo district.
The teachers were from the districts of Budaka, Busia, Pallisa, Butaleja and Tororo.

The group will initiate the patriotism drive in the Bukedi sub-region.
Museveni said with the free primary and secondary education and the Prosperity-for-All programme, the country will be modernised in the next 15 years.

“I want all the Iteso to be skilled. Even those in the farm should learn how to do it in a modern way. Africa must be transformed,” he said.
Museveni said the National Patriotic Programme promoted the love for Uganda and Ugandans without discrimination.

“Every Ugandan is valuable from infancy to adulthood. There is no reason for people to fight one another,” he said.

He said as modernization spreads, Ugandans will realise that their country is not enough for them.
“In Soroti, there are farmers who have heeded my advice to grow citrus fruits. They now have plenty of oranges that will not only need the national market but also the regional and international ones,” he said.

He told the teachers that as the economy grows, their remuneration will also be raised despite the global financial crisis.

J.J.Oburu of Tororo Highway Secondary School, thanked Museveni for the patriotic programme, and pledged that they would be good ambassadors in championing patriotism in secondary schools.
