THE Mufti, Sheikh Ramathan Mubajje, has said the current Muslim wrangles are a gift from Allah to expose the enemies of Islam.
“All along we have been working with saboteurs without knowing who they were,†Mubajje said while presiding over Duwa prayers at Luweero on Sunday.
A cross-section of Muslims led by Sheikh Zubair Kayongo, who accuse Mubajje of selling Muslim properties, recently formed a splinter group, which is vowing to take over the administration of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC).
Mubajje was accompanied by the UMSC officials, who were led by the Secretary General, Zaid Kavuma.
He said his detractors had been sabotaging his plans to develop Islamic institutions.
“I wanted to develop Katuumu (one of the oldest Islamic training institutions in Luweero), into a modern training centre, but they let me down,†he said.
Present were the Luweero district chairman, Ronald Ndawula, the UMSC organising secretary, Sheikh Annas Sessimba and officials from Masaka, Arua and Busoga.
However, several prominent Muslims in the district did not attend the prayers in which Sheikh Mustafa Lule was sworn in as the new district Khadhi, replacing Shiekh Abdulkadir Kinene, who was elevated to the rank of deputy Mufti.
Earlier on, the Luweero Muslim district chairman, Hajji Kaaya Gingo, had assured Mubajje that there would be no defectors in the district.
Ndawula urged Mubajje to be firm despite the pressure from detractors.
“It is the bad weather which enables trees to grow. If we were to have good weather all the time, we would not be able to harvest timber from forests,†he said.
Mubajje urged supporters not to despair, saying they (Mubajje’s group) were the legitimate leaders.
“When you have a legitimate institution, any other group running a parallel system, is a mere shadow,†he stated.
Mubajje warned that any officials who defect would forfeit their positions.
