Heathens versus Kobs Part 1

THE first half of the Bell Super 8 league draws to a close today with the top match being a mouth watering clash between MTN Heathens and uganda telecom Kobs. Both Clubs are Uganda's oldest and most successful rugby clubs. They have provided Uganda's longest running and biggest club rivalry.

With the guarantee of an international size crowd, both telecom companies will also be involved in a battle of mileage. I dare say this battle set to unfold today will not be for the faint hearted.

A long history of intense rivalry and immense pride can best describe the passion with which both sides approach these matches.
Irrespective of form on either side, one is always guaranteed a cracking and entertaining game of rugby.

The intensity and ferocity of such matches is not lost on URU/URRS, who with the '2008 Makerere Hima gate scandal' in mind, have deployed the country's top referee to take control of the match.

Introducing IRB level 3 referee Ramsey Olinga Fidel who will assisted by Charles Mungoma and Anguyo Dennis who will run touch.IRB level III referee Paul 'Foxy' Ojiambo is the assessor.

Contrasting fortunes

Kobs are unbeaten at the top of the Bell Super 8 League Table while second placed
Heathens –– who have turned self destruction into an art form –– will be desperate to avoid a second defeat in a row.

Kobs are expected to come with the flair champagne stuff, looking to stretch Heathens with their pace while the latter will want to make the game ugly, slow down the pace by keeping the ball tight and protected by their bigger forwards.

Interesting duels to look out for

Some interesting duels are on offer and national team coach Yayiro will be rubbing his hands in anticipation as he looks to assess his national team players.
Look out for the 8th man pickups from the top two in the league, Kob's Roger Rukundo versus Heathen's George Scott '300' Oluoch.
The trash talking feisty small men will square up when Heathen's Faisal Gamma take's on Kob's Allan Masiko.

What about Heathen's captain ex-international Brian Tabaruka locking horns with Kob's excellent pivot Edmond Tumusiime in the battle of the fly halfs?

Throw the names of classy players like Allan Musoke, Dr Tonny Luggya, Tim Mudoola, Adrian Bukenya, Joel Anguyo, Mathias Ochwo, Alexander Mubiru, Jason Horsey and Robert 'Soggy' Seguya –– fresh from the Seven's RWC –– into the fray and we are set for fantastic game of rugby.

As to who will come out on top, I think this game could go either way. How is that for sitting on the fence?
