THE Police in Mbarara are holding three women suspected of poisoning a man, identified as Richard Onama.

Rosette Katusiime, Onama’s wife, was arrested together with Juliet Kyobutungi and Elivansi Bihagaro, all residents of Rutoma village, Rugando in Rwampara county.

The officer in-charge of criminal investigations at Mbarara Police Station, Jackson Tumwine, said Onama died of suspected poisoning on March 13. The Police said Onama returned home drunk at 1:00am.

He reportedly called Katusiime to open the door for him and assist him to enter the house, but she did not.

The Police said Onama spent the night outside and in the morning, he vomited and died in front of his house.

Tumwine said the Police went with a doctor to Onama’s home, who carried out a postmortem examination and discovered that he had died of poisoning.

He said the postmortem report was ready, but they were waiting for information from the Government chemist.

Tumwine added that after the investigations, the trio could be charged with murder.

The Police suspect that Kyobutungi and Bihagaro helped Katusiime to murder her husband with whom they had family wrangles. Tumwine said Katusiime one time beat Onama with a mortar on the head.

The day before Onama died, Katusiime reportedly went to a nearby shop, belonging to Kamugisha and asked for rat poison. However, she did not find it there.

Katusiime reportedly spent the day with Kyobutungi, while Onama drunk alcohol at Bihagaro’s bar.
