VOLLEYBALL- The week-long International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) sanctioned beach volleyball course for coaches and instructors will end in Entebbe today. Over 20 participants, mostly Ugandans, and officials from Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda, have been taking part in the high level course for the east and central Africa region with Italian FIVB Instructor Roberto Reggiani in charge.

SOCCER-Twenty first division football clubs from FUFA Zones One, Two and Ten will compete in this year’s Eastern Region Super Mini-League due in Kamuli District in May. Eastern Football Association (EFA) chairman Sam Lwere told The New Vision that Zone One has been given five slots, Zone Two will field seven teams while hosts Zone Ten will be represented by eight clubs. The tournament winner will earn promotion to the Uganda Super League for the 2009/2010 season.

Naalya ready
BASKETBALL-Former national schools basketball girls’ champions St. Peter’s Naalya will make a fresh attempt to recapture the title when the qualifiers begin at Seeta High ground this weekend. Naalya, who won the crown in 2004, and their rivals are out to take up one of ten slots for the final due in Kampala next month. The teams in the qualifiers include Kibuli, Eagles Nest, Mengo SS, Makerere College, Crane High, East High Ntinda, Kyambogo College and Bishop Kihangire.
