The Vice-President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, has scoffed at people who had anticipated that he would be dropped in the recent Cabinet reshuffle.

“You must have heard that Bukenya would be dropped from the cabinet, but he wasn’t. I want to assure you I am there to stay,” he said.

Bukenya who is also the MP for Busiro North told a gathering at Kakiri trading centre on Friday that he was irked by non-performers who waste time hoping to step in other people’s shoes.

Bukenya was launching the Post Bank branch at Kakiri, the first ever in the area.

It was the first time Bukenya publicly commented on his retention as Vice-President.

Bukenya said: “The NRM has so far only moved half-way the journey. Support us to complete the remaining part because we are confident of where we are going.”

He thanked the bank officials for having ventured into Kakiri where no other bank had dared. He regretted that the two Micro-Finance institutions that had operated in the area had closed.

Bukenya said the area had potential to develop since the people were aware of the usefulness of savings.

He disclosed that previously Kakiri produced only 150 litres of milk a day, but the figures had risen to 2,800 due to improved cattle rearing.

He said he would avail a milk Cooler for small scale cattle keepers.

The Vice-President appealed to residents to be honest and hard working and ensure they lived a healthy life.

Bukenya also opened St. Francisca Dental Clinic at Kakira trading centre.

Ruth Nankabirwa, the micro-finance state minister, encouraged women to fully utilise the bank since they were planners and investors of their families.

Nankabirwa also said she would not retire from politics adding that she had deposited her campaign money for the 2011 elections with the Post Bank.
