Sub-counties will get extra funding from the Government starting next financial year, the Vice-President has said.

Prof. Gilbert Bukenya made the disclosure while touring the ongoing road works on the Namayumba-Semuto and Masulita roads in Wakiso and Nakaseke districts recently.

He also addressed residents of Jomba and Sseganga parishes in Masulita sub-county, Wakiso district, as well as those in Semuto sub-county, Nakaseke district.

“The extra funds will enable the sub-counties to work on their roads, schools and health centres,” a statement from the Vice-President’s office said on Thursday.

Bukenya said the roads under construction had been taken over by the Central Government following a directive from President Yoweri Museveni. Bukenya advised the farmers to utilise the road network to access markets for their agricultural produce in Kampala.

He also disclosed that the Government plans to construct a primary school in Jomba parish and called upon the residents to provide land on which it can be built.

“Once the land is available, the school will be complete in the next four months,” Bukenya said.

He added that the Government plans to construct a health unit in the parish to enable the residents with easy access to health services.

Bukenya offered coffee seedlings to farmers in Jomba and Sseganga parishes and advised them to take advantage of the ongoing rainy season to plant the seedlings.

The Nakaseke LC5 chairperson, Ignatius Koomu, hailed the Government for the ongoing road works in his district.

“A good road network will develop Nakaseke and improve the living conditions of the people by enabling them to access markets for their agricultural produce,” he said.

Present was the Masulita sub-county chairperson, Emmanuel Lukyamuzi.
