IT was the young riders who were outstanding as Uganda gathered 380 points to beat Kenya in the Central Africa Motocross Championships at Garuga on Easter Sunday.

In the 50cc category dominated by Ugandans, 5-year-old Alistair Blick came top and his cousin Camilla Mayanja (45 points) was second while 4-year-old Paddy Blick came third. According to the new rules only points of the best two from each category count towards the championship.

Uganda’s Fatuh Kiggundu (50 points) and Eduardo Bossi (47) claimed the top two positions in the 65cc class while Kenyan Samir Khan came third.

Kenyans Ivan Guya, Cruz Mungai and Shivam Vinayik beat Ugandans Yannick Dyck, Jack Evans and Arthur Blick into second positions in the 85cc, 125cc and the Open class respectively.

Ugandan captain Arthur Blick, whose sons Alistair and Paddy excelled in the 50cc, praised the kid riders.

“Our little ones did well. We have a good margin to build on in the second leg,” Blick said.

The second leg will be held in Nairobi on September 12.
