THE expression that good things come in small packages came true last Thursday when Brenda Nambi of singing girl outfit HB Toxic launched her fashion label, Bambi Fashions at the Club Silk Fashion Nite.

The show, which lasted only 40 minutes, was one of the best since the theme night started last year. The guests were buzzing with anticipation, right from the start, and Nambi delivered on all fronts.

Although she is mostly known as a former member of the Obsessions, Nambi showed that she is multi-talented. The B Nambi collection was electrifying; it was not so much about making a statement, but showing relevance and beauty of her designs. Her casual collection comprised trendy dress tops and leggings as well as party dresses with sequins.

The swimsuit collection got the most reaction, for obvious reasons, and although one might argue that she used a lot of material for a genre that often requires the least amount of clothing, the brightly-coloured see-through kaftans worn over bikini bottoms were alluring.

The gown-up collection came last and was exquisite. She used a blend of rich fabrics including silk, suede and satin to make flowing gowns, many with empire waists and long slits at the front.

The attention to detail was evident as all the clothes fitted the models and the makeup was flawless. The new lighting and revamped stage was a plus and MC Dennis Mawanda was good.

Ragga Dee, the guest artiste for the night, entertained guests with his old and new hits. Together with two dancers who double as a comedy act, they had the guests laughing throughout the evening.
