Who is Masrani?

HE looks every inch a modest man; very unlike the typical flamboyant Kampala businessman. But looks are deceptive. Rupin Masrani (in set) is no run-of-the-mill trader. But we wouldn’t have known that if it was not for the car show at the launch of Shell’s new V-Power fuel at Shell, Lugogo last week.

The little known MD of Datanet, an IT firm in town, showcased a $75,000 (over sh150m less taxes) Audi RS4 alongside other headturners as Gilbert Wavamunno’s Mercedes Benz C63 and two other SL55s.

Last produced in 2008, the Audi RS4 is a sports saloon car brand competing with the likes of Mercedes Benz C63 and BMW M3. The RS4 is also one of the fastest Audis in the world accelerating to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds and reaching 125 mph in 16.6 seconds.

Standard features include Satellite Navigation, Bluetooth, Bi Xenon Headlamps, Heated seats, Brushed Aluminum Interior Trim, Electric Seats, CD Player, 4 Wheel Drive, Front and Side Air Bags. We could not exactly establish the model but Masrani’s car is possibly the only one of its kind in Kampala. So who exactly is this Masrani fellow?
