ROOFINGS Limited is to invest $120m (about sh264b) in a project at Namanve industrial park, the managing director, Sikander Lalani, has said. The new factory, which would occupy eight acres, would house a wire galvanising plant, a steel rolling mill and a cold rolling mill for galvanising and colour coating.

During a dealers’ party at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala recently, he said they would introduce appropriate technologies and achieve a global presence by ensuring customer satisfaction.

“We are determined to invest in a wide range of steel products for the building industry at Namanve, in addition to our existing factory in Lubowa.”

“This will not only see us satisfy the local demand, but will also grow our export portfolio,” Lalani said.

The announcement comes shortly after Roofings invested $5m (about sh10b) in modern machinery for manufacturing new products like eco-tiles, expanded metal and razor wire and assorted wire mesh.

He said Roofings’ growth over the last 14 years had partly been due to the loyalty, commitment and support of dealers in Uganda and exporters in the region.

Lalani also attributed the company’s success to a conducive investment climate created by the Government and Uganda Investment Authority.
